Do you like to fondle fabric? Do you have the passion to create a high-quality product?
We are currently seeking to fill an important, hands-on position in our growing company. We are looking for someone who can handle getting their hands dirty - like stained with dye and full of lint! A love of color and quilting is a bonus. We are a very creative company and are building our staff in our new facility. It's a very exciting time!
This qualified candidate will be responsible for preparations and procedures for the dyeing process, including but not limited to:
Handling raw materials - lifting 50 lb. bags, moving supplies where needed, stocking fabric, salt, soda ash and synthrapol. Note -This position does NOT include mixing the powdered dyes.
Ripping fabric from 150-yard rolls - the rolls weigh approx. 35 pounds and must be lifted waist-high. Repetitive motion of the hands and wrists. (We rip instead of cut to keep the pieces on grain.)
Machine attendant - tending to washing machines and dryers at designated intervals. Keeping track of the different stages in the process. Basically, doing laundry!
Operating a rotary iron (also known as a mangle) - this unique skill can definitely be taught. However, the hand-eye coordination to do it well and with pride is what we are looking for. This person has the unique opportunity to look at every single piece of fabric that comes through production. This means that they are responsible for quality control and must be very keen on our high standards.
Packaging - Cherrywood has distinct, trademark packaging. We are very specific and particular with how the end product turns out. This person not only has to have the "attention to detail" that everyone believes they possess, they also must CARE enough to get it right. Every time.
Assembling Kits - attention to the many details involved in pulling a project together for retail sale.
Cutting and ripping fabric
Packing fabric, kits and supplies needed for freight shipments to trade shows.
Many miscellaneous projects - every day is different around here, and that's what keeps us on our toes!
Must be able to lift 50 lbs., stand on concrete, bend to take fabric out of dryers, work without supervision
Since we are a very small company, there will be crossover in job responsibilities. Employees may travel to trade shows and the others must know how to fill in for them for a week.
This position could be filled by 2 part-time people, or 1 full-time person - it will be dependent of the candidates.
Starting pay: $10.00 - $11.00 per hour
